Personnel development in using medical device in operating room and cardiac catheterization room

Abstract

Objectives: To survey for personnel using medical device in operating room and cardiac catheterization room and to recognize the role of medical instrument and operating room technologist (MIORT) according to the requirements of personnel in operating room and cardiac catheterization room.

Methodology: The researchers surveyed data from 33 participants, consisting of doctors, nurses, cardiothoracic technologist and engineer from medical device center. They worked in operating room or cardiac catheterization room in Vajira hospital.

Results: All profession in operating room or cardiac catheterization room had to work relating with medical instrument. They wanted MIORT to be able to prepare, set up medical device to be ready to use, testing before usage, maintenance after usage, verification after calibration, and so on. Also they wanted MIORT to be morally, and to work well with others. These information were useful for organizing curriculum that for performance development in medical equipment, according to the needs of medical staff.

Conclusion: The curriculum of medical instrument and operating room technology provided enough knowledge and skill meeting the demands of personnel in operating room and cardiac catheterization room.
