The Results of Using the Standard in Providing Counseling Services in Birth Control Leading to Their Knowledge and Satisfaction

Objective: To compare the knowledge before and after providing services in line with counseling service standard and the measurement of the level of satisfaction after providing counseling services in line with counseling service standard.

Study design: Quasi-experimental research; one group pre-test post-test design and one group post-test only design.

Subjects: One hundred and twenty women who came for birth control by taking oral contraceptive pills were studied at the Family Planning Unit, BMA Medical College and Vajira Hospital during October 2002-January 2003.  All subjects were not in breast-feeding period and no contraindication in taking combined contraceptive pills.  They were included in the study group by purposive sampling.

Methods: The questionnaire comprised of basic informations, knowledge tests of oral contraception and customer's satisfaction.  The subjects were asked to complete the knowledge tests before and after the high standard of counseling services.  All data were collected and analysed by descriptive statistics.

Main outcome measures: Customer's knowledge and satisfaction after counseling service.
