Abstract

Epidemiology of the Burn Patients in BMA Medical College and Vajira Hospital

Objective: To study the epidemiology and expense of the burn patients who were admitted in the burn unit

Study design: Retrospective descriptive study.

Subjects: A total of 53 patients who were admitted at the burn unit between March 2000 and February 2001

Methods: Data from the burn unit was collected and analyzed

Main outcome measures: The number of patients, sex, age, lenght of stay and expenses

Results: There are 53 patients who were admitted in the burn unit, 32 male and 21 females (9 boys are 6 girls) The cause of burn in female is hot water but in male is electrical burn. The most frequent age group is 15 - 45 years. Most of them stay 20-60 days in hospital and the average expense is 11,438 bath, most of them can not afford to pay. Conclusion: The most common cause of the male burn patient in Bangkok id frame burn but for female is hot water. Most of the patients stay 20 - 60 days in hospital which causes a lot of expenses.
