Abstract

Teacher's Roles in Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Medical Coolege and Vajira Hospital

Objective: To identify the teacher's roles in medical teachers of twelve roles of the teacher: lecturer in classroom          setting, teacher in clinical class setting, on-the-job role and the mean score of all roles model in the teaching      setting, mentor, learning facilitator, planning of participating in formal examinations, curriculum evaluator,           curriculum planner, course organizer, production of study guides and developing learning resource materials . The realization of teacher's role, current practice and future commitment were the three aspects evaluated in    each role. The rating score was divided to five levels.

Main outcome measures: Mean rating score in every aspect of each role and the mean score of all roles.

Results: The responded rate was 50.9% (108/202). In the aspect of  the realization of teacher's role, the mean score of      twelve teacher's roles was 4.0 The highest and the lowest were practical teacher and the resource materials               creator with the score of 4.3 and 3.7 In the aspect of current practice, mean score of the twelve teacher's roles              was 3.2. The highest and the lowest were teaching role model and resource materials creator with the score of     3.7 and 2.7 In the last aspect, preferred personal future commitment, the mean score of the twelve teacher's                 roles was 3.5 The highest and the lowest were teaching role model and resource materials creator with the score                 of 3.9 and 3.2 The first five roles that should be concerned were resource materials creator, curriculum planner,           course organizer, study guide producer and mentor

Conclusion: The realization of all twelve teacher's roles for teaching in medical school was recognized by the medical                 teachers in BMA Medical College and Vajira Hospital. Moreover, they wanted to increase these roles in the            future.
