Subjects: Three hundred and eighty five pregnant women with at least 1 clinical risk factor(s) for GDM visiting antenatal care clinic at Taksin Hospital, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration were screened for GDM during August 2005 to March 2006.
Methods: Age, body weight, height, clinical risk factors for GDM, gestational age, 50 g GCT results and 100 g OGTT results were collected and analyzed.
Main outcome measures: Prevalence of GDM before 24 week of gestational age in pregnant women with clinical risk factors for GDM
Results: Prevalence of GDM before 24 week of gestational age was 11.2% (95%CI: 8.2-14.7). Mean gestational age at diagnosis was 12.8+4.9 weeks. Maternal age was the only clinical risk factor for GDM. Pregnant women having more than 1 clinical risk factor were increased in incidence of GDM with the odds ratio of 2.3 (95% CI: 1.2-4.4).
Conclusion: The prevalence of GDM in this study was 11.2% and GDM was detected earlier at 12.8 weeks.
