Objective: To determine the quality of leukocyte-poor packed red cell (T-ACE®)
Study design: Descriptive study
Methods: Thirty units of whole bloods from healthy volunteer donors at Blood Band, Clinical Pathology Department, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Medical College and Vajira Hospital between February 2006 to August 2006 were analyzed.
Methods: A total of 30 units were collected into Quadruple bags set. After centrifugal separation by (T-ACE®), an automated complete blood Count of LPRC was assessed using an automated cell counter (SYSMEXXT- 2000i®). Then, the qualities of LPRC were also compared with the International Standard, Siriraj Hospital and National Blood Center.
Main outcome measures: Quality of LPRC
Results: The mean amount of white blood cell (WBC) and red blood cell (RBC) were 2.9x109 cell/unit and 2.5x1010 cell/unit. After centrifugal separation by (T-ACE®). The mean residual WBC, mean volume of LPRC, hematocrit, percentage of RBC recovery and percentage of WBC removal were 0.9 x 109cells/unit, 269 ml, 59.6%, 83.6% and 67%, respectively, These results were not different after comparing with the International Standard, Siriraj Hospital and National Blood Center
Conclusion: The quality of LPRC prepared by T-ACE® in BMA Medical College and Vajira Hospital reached the International Standard.
