Factors Affecting Cervical Cancer Screening among Women in Bangkhae District, Bangkok

Objective: To determine the factors affecting cervical cancer screening among target women in Bangkhae District, Bangkok.
Study Design: Descriptive study.
Subjects: A total of four hundred women with the age of 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 years in the year 2006, living in Bangkhae District were enrolled. The study was done between June-July 2007.
Methods: Data was collected by face-to-face interview.
Main outcome measures: Demographic data, perception of health belief, perception of information and status of cervical cancer screening.
Results: The rate of cervical cancer screening was 51.2 %. The reasons for acceptance of screening were post-partum care (35.1%) and abnormal vaginal symptoms (25.9%). The common reasons for non-acceptance of screening were no abnormal symptoms, unavailable and shameful with responsible for 44.6%, 16.9% and 15.4%. The marital status, perception of health belief by the all, perception of information about Pap smear campaign, recommendation for screening and knowledge affected to cervical cancer screening significantly (p-value < 0.05).
Conclusion: Marital status, perception of health belief, perception of information about cervical cancer were the affecting factors to cervical cancer screening among women in Bangkhae District.
