Objectives: To determine the incidence of one abnormal glucose value in pregnant women who underwent 100-gram oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and evaluate the association between this one abnormal value and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Study design: Descriptive study.
Subjects: A total of one thousand two hundred and two pregnant women attending antenatal care and delivering at BMA Medical College and Vajira Hospital during October 2004 to December 2006 were enrolled. All subjects had abnormal screening test for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and underwent a 100-gram OGTT.
Methods: Data from obstetrics records were collected and analyzed.
Main outcome measures: Incidence of one abnormal value in 100-gram OGTT and associated adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Results: The incidence of one abnormal glucose value in this study was 17.1%. The risk of macrosomia in pregnant women with one abnormal glucose value was increased to 2.7 times (95% CI: 1.2-6.0) comparing to pregnant women with all normal glucose values.
Conclusion: The incidence of one abnormal glucose value in the study group was 17.1%. One abnormal glucose value in 100-gram OGTT, although does not meet the criteria for GDM diagnosis, associated with macrosomia.
