Maxillary permanent canine is the second most common tooth having problem of impaction after the mandibular third permanent molar. The etiology is uncertain. Two hypotheses have been proposed: the guidance and the genetic theories. At present, the dentist can early predict the impaction of the maxillary canine by various radiographic imagings. This could be achieved as early as 8 years of age leading to a timely treatment planning which would consequently decrease a complicated treatment, side effects, treatment time, and expected cost of treatment.
