Occupational Communicable Diseases, Immunity Status Study and Immunization Program Arrangement for the BMA General Hospital Health Care Personnel

Abstract

Purposes: To study the immunity status of the occupational communicable diseases and to set up an appropriate immunization program for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration General Hospital health care personnel.

Methods: This was a prospective descriptive study. The data collection had been performed between November 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013. The immunization status was surveyed from all hospital health care personnel. The immunity tests among all risked personnel were performed. The results were used to set up an appropriate immunization program for the hospital health care personnel. Priority setting for the immunization program included: 1) Number of the risked personnel 2) Number of the risked departments 3) Clinical severity and lack of on-duty personnel if infected 4) Previous immunization.

Results: The percentage of risked personnel who got a positive immunity against Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B viruses were 85.71% and 45.26% respectively. Positive history of vaccine immunization was confirmed in the risked personnel as follows; Varicella Zoster 30.50%, Influenza 25.50%, Pertussis 51.10%, Diphtheria 52.86%, Tetanus 50.80%, Rabies 30.36% and Mump-Measles-Rubella 31.5%. Priority setting for immunization are 1) Hepatitis B 2) Hepatitis A 3) Varicella Zoster 4) Influenza. The vaccine immunization in 4 major diseases was contributed to all risked health care personnel. The completed dosage immunization among the risked health care personnel are as follows 1) Hepatitis B vaccination 92.5% 2) Hepatitis A vaccination 100% 3) Varicella Zoster vaccination 100% and 4) Influenza vaccination 86.5%

Conclusions: Priority setting for immunization in Bangkok Metropolitan Administration General Hospital is Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Varicella Zoster and Influenza. The immunization program was set up for high-risk health care personnel.
