Factors affecting smoking behavior of youth in Lat-Yai Sub-district Mueang Samut-Songkhram District Samut-Songkhram Province

The purpose of this Survey research was to examine factors affecting smoking behavior of youth in Lat-Yai sub-district Mueang Samut-Songkhram District Samut-Songkhram Province. Data collected by using personal factors, knowledge factors, attitude factors, cigarette access factors, and legal knowledge factors questionnaire. That has been validated by the expert, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.92. The sample was the specific group of Youth age 15-18 years living in Lat-Yai sub-district Mueang Samut-Songkhram District Samut-Songkhram Province, 280 people. That selected using specific method. Descriptive statistics, such as percentage, frequency, SD, and Chi-Square were used in the analysis of data. The result: Most of the sample was female, 85.70%, the mean age was 16.83 years (SD = 0.97). The personal factors of the parents, age, education level, and marital status were not related to the smoking behavior of youth in Lat- Yai sub-district. While the sex and occupation of parents were associated with smoking behavior of youth in Lat-Yai sub-district, statistically significant at 0.05 level. Knowledge of cigarettes factor, Attitude of cigarettes factor, cigarette access factor, and the factors of legal knowledge were associated with the smoking behavior of youth in Lad Yai sub-district, statistically significant at 0.05 level. The results of this research can be applied as a guideline to establishing anti-smoking patterns among youths, both those who smoke already and those who are likely to start smoking. This is to ensure continuity and efficiency in further action.
