Multidrug Resistant among Patients with Pulmonary Tuberculosis: Literature Review
Keywords:

Multidrug resistant tuberculosis remains an important health problem worldwide. Patients with multidrug resistant is high risk of disseminating to others and may be developed the severity to be extensively drug resistant. This review aimed to review factors associated with multidrug resistant among pulmonary tuberculosis patients. The research articles published in the national and international databases were reviewed. The results of reviews were presented using forest plots by determining the effect size (Odds ratios, OR) and 95% confidence interval (95%CI). The reviews of factors associated with multidrug resistant among pulmonary tuberculosis patients were grouped into three factors including: 1) health behavior factors (alcohol drinking, smoking, contacted with tuberculosis patients and contacted with multidrug resistant tuberculosis patients), 2) illness factors (diabetes, HIV infection and COPD), and 3) clinical and treatment factors (baseline sputum smear grading, receiving BCG and being relapse cases). The review suggested that medical and public health professionals should develop model of prevention and surveillance using those factors in order to reduce multidrug resistant tuberculosis.
