Model Development of New Case Pulmonary Tuberculosis Management, Khon Kaen Province

Abstract

 This participatory action research was aim to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of model development of new case pulmonary tuberculosis management. Data were collected from September 2563 to April 2564 at the tuberculosis clinic in Khon Kaen Province. Purposive sampling the informants as nurses, public health technical officers, mentors for directly observed therapy, and new cases of pulmonary tuberculosis. The research tool was a semi-structured interview form on the management of new case pulmonary tuberculosis, knowledge assessment form for new case pulmonary tuberculosis, and behavioral questionnaire on the supervision of taking anti-TB drugs. The index of item-objective congruence was 0.95. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, and content analysis. The results showed that the theory of social support under the concept of “Discover, ending with healed, system development and community participation” can develop the management model for new case of pulmonary tuberculosis in Khon Kaen Province. The new case of pulmonary tuberculosis in the experimental group had a statistically significantly higher mean score of knowledge than the control group at a p-value .05 (p-value .011). The success rate of the new case pulmonary tuberculosis treatment in the experimental group was 93.33%. Hence, the results of this study can be used for tuberculosis prevention and control in Khon Kaen provincial public health office effectively.
