Expectations of Desired Competency in the 21st Century among Public Health Professionals

This descriptive research aimed to study the current competency and expectations of desired competency in the 21st century among public health technical officer and 2) Comparison of mean difference between current competency and expectations of desired competency in the 21st century among public health technical officer. 300 samples were public health technical officer or public health officer who orders to perform duties in the position of a public health technical officer and had at least 1 year of working experiences in public health in the area of the Sakon Nakhon provincial public health office. The samples were selected by using a systematic random sampling. Data were collected by using a questionnaire developed by the researchers from the literature review. Data were analyzed by using statistics, mean, standard deviation, percentage, and the difference between the mean score between current and expected competencies. The results showed that the current competency had all aspects were moderately level. The expectations of desired competency in the 21st century had all aspects were high level. Considering the difference between current and expected competencies, the highest mean difference was the media literacy, communication, and creativity and innovation which revealed 1.15 (95%CI 1.07-1.24),1.13 (95%CI 1.03-1.18), and 1.12 (95%CI 1.04-1.20) respectively. Therefore, the media literacy, communication, and creativity and innovation competencies should be improved among health manpower to support measures of public health in community areas to respond to the changes in the 21st century.
