Prevalence and Associated Factors of Motorcycle Accident Among Senior High School Students in Phukieo District, Chaiyaphum Province

Abstract

This research was cross-sectional analytical research for finding the prevalence and factor associated with motorcycle accident among high school students in the Secondary Education Service Area Office Chaiyaphum (Area 30^th), Chiyaphum province. The sample consisted of 991 high school students who rode motorcycles to school. This study surveyed the accident occurring during January 1, 2019 to January 30, 2020.  Data were collected by using a self-answer of questionnaire.  The data were analyzed by using the multiple logistic regressions and presented as adjusted odd ratio (OR_adj) with 95% confidence interval.

            The research got about 920 participants of the completed questionnaires (92.7%). The results showed that the prevalence of motorcycling accidents was 114 students (12.4%). The factors significantly associated with motorcycling accidents were speed of driving with more than 80 km./hr. (OR_adj=3.01, 95%CI=1.97-4.58, p<0.001), driving a motorcycle for more than 2 persons (OR_adj=2.00, 95%CI=1.18-3.38, p=0.005), motorcycle without side view mirror or not working ​​(OR_adj =3.43, 95%CI=2.08-4.89 p< 0.001).Suggestions, it should give the knowledge of traffic law, raise awareness of danger, motorcycling accident prevention, driving license training with motorcycle inspection once a year to ensure that the motorcycle is in working condition.
