Demographics factor related to smoking behavior, a case study of Pathum Thani Province

Abstract

The aims of this case were to investigate smoking behavior and to analyze correlation of demographic factors to smoking behavior. The samples are selected by stratified random sampling in total 468 individuals who are living in Lamlukka, Muang Pathum Thani, and Thanyaburi district, Pathum Thani Province, Thailand. There was one questionnaire with the internal consistency reliability was 0.625- 0.701 and total value 0.678. The descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were analyzed by SPSS version 24.0 via frequency, percentage, mean and chi-square technique. The result findings displayed that the sample group was male, age 20-30 years old, Bachelor degree, single, no child, 4 membership of family, student in career, less than 10,000 Baht for income, smoking for up to 5 years, ever quit smoking 1-3 times, 1-3 smokers around, LM for cigar brand regularly, and pay themselves for health insurance. Due to smoking behavior, they have smoked less than 5 cigars per day anytime anyplace, spent 100-499 Baht per month, they would not be smoking if children around, being anxiety and drink alcohol they would be more smoking, Having to attend parties/socializing with friends is the reason why you can't quit, and If chest pain, they would temporarily stop smoking. Moreover, amount of cigarette a day has correlation from education levels, smoking period, quitting smoking, smoker around, and medical benefits while type of cigarette has correlation from occupation, family member, smoker around, and medical benefits at different significance. Moreover, smoking frequency has career and income correlation with different significance.
