Development of COVID-19 Vaccination Strategies, Yasothon

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and evaluate the COVID-19 vaccination strategies using action research with four steps: planning, operation, observing and reflecting. Conducted between May-October 2022 in Yasothon province. The sample was the elderly aged 60 years and over, who have underlying seven diseases and pregnant women (608-group) in Yasothon province and stakeholders. Data was collected using focus groups, in-depth interviews, reviewing of the secondary data and surveys with questionnaires. The qualitative data used content analysis. The quantitative data using descriptive statistics, Multiple logistic regression and Z-test. The results showed that 2,307samples were mostly female, 53.8%, aged 70 years and over, 38.9%, and the rate of receiving booster COVID-19 vaccination (3rd dose) was 65.3%. Factors associated with receive booster 3rd dose include 1) income, 2)perceived benefit of COVID-19 vaccines can offer continued protection and 3)perceived benefits were effective at protecting people from severity or mortality. Operational context in the past found a lack of analysis and planning of strategy at clear and effective, lack of integration among stakeholders. Based on the information bring to the planning of COVID-19 vaccination strategies by the participation include 1)provincial strategy and 2)area-based strategy. As a result of the trial implementation of the strategy, the coverage of the vaccination 608-group increased statistically (P<0.05) from 54.2% to 73.4%. The increased coverage of booster COVID-19 vaccination among 608-group reflects the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination strategies developed, and participation in the implementation of stakeholders, most of the healthcare workers were satisfied with the developed strategy were medium and high levels.
