ABSTRACT

Pulmonary tuberculosis is a contagious disease that have to take a long time for treatment and needs appropriate care model. This action research aimed to study the participatory care model for pulmonary tuberculosis patients in Mae Jai sub-district community, Mae Jai district, Phayao province. This study was divided into 2 phases: 1) situation analysis for pulmonary tuberculosis patients care in Mae Jai sub-district community and 2) investigate participatory care model for pulmonary tuberculosis patients in Mae Jai sub-district community. The key informants were 28 stakeholders such as man included village health volunteer, village headman, health officials, patients, people who were diagnosed and treated for tuberculosis and their relatives. Data were collected by in-dept interview and focus group discussion and content analysis was performed for data analysis. The results revealed that Mae Jai sub-district community was the highest morbidity and mortality rate of tuberculosis but the role of family and community for patient care prod is unclear. The participatory care model investigated was composed of 4 components; 1.Man included village health volunteer, village headman, health officials, patients, people who were diagnosed and treated for tuberculosis and their relatives, 2.Money allocated from Primary Care Unit, hospital and municipality, 3.Materials supported by community hospitals and subdistrict health promotion hospitals and 4.Management according to “3 hearts concept” (encourage heart,  pay attention heart and confederate heart). The results of model lead to patient self-care, community participation and effective treatment.  This model will be applied for all area in Mae Jai district or other area as the similar context.
