Factors associated with Musculoskeletal disorder prevention behavior of jelly mushroom farmers in Cherng Saphan Village Community Enterprise, Ratchaburi Province

Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive research aimed to study the level of musculoskeletal disorder prevention behavior and the factors related to musculoskeletal disorder prevention behavior of jelly mushroom farmers in the community enterprise group of the Cheing Saphan village, Ratchaburi province. The sample group consisted of 70 jelly mushroom farmers in the community enterprise group of the Cheing Saphan village, Ratchaburi province, both male and female, aged 20-60 years. The sampling method was purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by frequency distribution, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The statistical analysis of the relationship was performed using Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient and Eta-correlation coefficient

            The research results found that the level of musculoskeletal disorder prevention behavior of jelly mushroom farmers in the community enterprise group of the Cheang Saphan village, Ratchaburi province, was moderate (x̅ 2.96, SD = 0.710). Factors related to musculoskeletal disorder prevention behavior were average monthly income (r = 0.458, p-value = 0.001). This can explain why farmers with high incomes may have access to information sources on musculoskeletal disorder prevention methods. This resulted in better compliance with the guidelines for the prevention of bone and muscle diseases than those with low incomes because they had sufficient financial resources to purchase equipment that would reduce fatigue from work. Health belief patterns included the perception of the benefits of bone and muscle disease prevention (r = 0.249, p-value = 0.037) This explains that the sample group who believed that stretching before or while working and adjusting their postures to be appropriate for their work would benefit themselves had behaviors to prevent bone and muscle diseases that were consistent with health belief patterns. The results of this study are useful in promoting more behaviors for wood ear mushroom farmers to prevent bone and muscle diseases.
