Development of a Data Analysis System to Enhance Operational Efficiency and Support Decision-Making at Sungmen Hospital

Abstract

This research and development study aimed to develop a data analysis system and compare operational efficiency scores and management decision-making before and after system implementation. The study applied Simon's decision-making theory through five key activities: 1) studying relevant theoretical concepts of data analysis, surveying data collection situations and data needs; 2) drafting a data analysis system based on findings from activity 1; 3) pilot testing the system; 4) improving the system based on feedback; and 5) implementing the system in actual practice. The sample consisted of 50 purposively selected system users. Research instruments included operational efficiency assessment and management decision-making assessment forms, with content validity values of 0.86 and 0.93, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation) and paired t-test.

            The results revealed that the hospital developed a strategic data analysis system called "SM-TEAM" that clearly aligned with the hospital's key goals and was used for monitoring and evaluating operations through real-time dashboard presentations of synthesized data. After implementing the data analysis system, the sample group showed statistically significant higher mean scores in operational efficiency compared to pre-implementation, with a high-level mean score of 42.54 (SD=3.48). Similarly, management decision-making scores were significantly higher after implementation, with a high-level mean score of 41.18 (SD=4.40). The findings demonstrate that the developed data analysis system effectively enhanced both operational efficiency and management decision-making capabilities for system users at Sung Men Hospital.
