Abstract

This quasi-experimental study with a two-group pre-posttest design aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a behavior promotion program for COVID-19 prevention among older adults. Participants were 70 elderly individuals enrolled in the Elderly School Program in Rayong Province, Thailand, selected through two-stage stratified random sampling and assigned equally to experimental and comparison groups (n=35 each). The intervention was implemented over six weeks. Data were collected using a health belief model questionnaire and a COVID-19 preventive behavior assessment. Statistical analyses included frequency, percentage, standard deviation. Mean and proportion different analyzes by independent t-tests, pair t-test and fisher’s exact test.

Results indicated that the experimental group had significantly higher post-intervention scores in both health belief model and COVID-19 preventive behaviors compared to their pre-intervention scores (p < 0.05). Moreover, the post-intervention scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the comparison group in both domains (p < 0.05).

In summary, the behavior promotion program effectively improved COVID-19 preventive behaviors among older adults. Health promotion practitioners and community elderly care providers are encouraged to adopt this program to strengthen disease prevention efforts in community settings.
