Abstract

This action research aimed to develop a behavior modification service model for people at risk of chronic noncommunicable diseases. Phase 1 explored the context and problems of care for people at risk of chronic noncommunicable diseases at the NCD Prevention Center in the Don Mot Daeng District Public Health Office, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Phase 2 developed the model and included 70 samples of community leaders, district-level quality of life development committees, public health officials, and village health volunteers. Phase 3 evaluated the behavior modification model for 60 people at risk of chronic noncommunicable diseases. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentages, means, and standard deviations, and compared participation. The model included a behavioral measure for people at risk of chronic diseases and a knowledge test about chronic diseases. Inferential statistics included a paired sample t-test. The study was conducted over a 24-week period.

The research results found that the knowledge level about chronic non-communicable diseases was at a high level after the implementation (𝑥̄ = 11.6, S.D. = 1.8) higher than before the implementation (𝑥̄ = 7.3, S.D. = 2.1). Self-care behaviors were at a high level after the implementation (𝑥̄ = 35.7, S.D. = 4.3) higher than before the implementation (𝑥̄ = 24.2, S.D. = 5.1). Support for the group at risk of chronic non-communicable diseases was at a high level after the implementation (𝑥̄ = 30.1, S.D. = 5.3) higher than before the implementation (𝑥̄ = 21.4, S.D. = 4.9). There was a format for conducting activities, organizing training to change health behaviors with the 3S, 3A, 1N technique (chanting, meditation, religious discussion, food, emotions, exercise, and biological clock), home follow-up visits by a multidisciplinary team, and health assessment. And refer for treatment, arrange for referral channels to connect with the host hospital and return channels for care in the community by the operations of the Thai People Away from NCDs Center, which is under the NCDs Prevention Center in the Community. The evaluation according to the format before and after the operation has a statistically significant difference at the 0.01 level.
