Development on Paraffin Oil mix with Sahattara oil to Relieve Hand Numbness in Nongsano Subdistrict Public Health Promoting Hospital, Mueang District, Phetchaburi Province

Abstract

This research and development study aimed to identify problems and treatment for hand numbness, and the creation of a hand rub with a mixture of paraffin and sahattara oil. The effectiveness for treating hand numbness and the satisfaction of the product were evaluated.  This study included 3 steps 1) current situation and problem on hand numbness treatment analysis 2) development of paraffin and sahattara oil product 3) evaluation of the effectiveness and satisfaction of the product. The participants were 60 patients with hand numbness in Nongsano Subsistrict Public Health Promoting Hospital, Mueang District, Phetchaburi Province. The 30 participants were assigned as a control group and used only a paraffin oil treatment, while the other 30 participants were assigned as the experimental group and used the paraffin and sahattara oil mixture. The differences between the two groups were analyzed using Independent t-test and Paired t-test to compared the results before and after within each group. The results showed the focus group interviews showed before the study the majority of patients with hands numbness used a hot bath or oil treatment. However, the oil treatment was slightly sticky and the hot bath was difficult to control the temperature. Therefore, a product with a mixture of paraffin and sahattara oil was created. Comparison of the effects between the only paraffin oil and the mixture of paraffin and sahattara oil for relieving hand numbness were statistical significance with the level at 0.05. Moreover, the patient satisfaction on using the mixture of paraffin and sahattara oil proved very good level ( = 4.31). Therefore, sahattara oil improved and enhanced the effectiveness of Paraffin oil treatment for hand numbness patient.
