Factors Influencing Coping With Stress of The Main Taking Care The Elderly In Mueng Tak District, Tak Province

Abstract

This Cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to study factors influencing the Stress coping of caregivers of the elderly with diabetes in Muang Tak District, Tak Province. The sample were 356 elderly caregivers which 18 years old and over, selected by using stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires during the 27^th March 2021 to the 27^th April 2021.The data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis with stepswise. The findings revealed that caregivers of the elderly mostly had a low level of stress for 95.5 percent and had a moderate level of stress coping for 83.4 percent. Factors influencing stress coping of elderly caregivers were attitudes towards elderly care, knowledge about diabetes, family ties, duration of care, and age. (p–value < 0.05), These factors were together predicted of the stress coping of caregivers for 36.5 percent (R² = 0.365, p<0.001). The results suggested that related organization should be promote stress coping activities among elderly caregivers focus on attitude towards the care of elderly and proper knowledge about diabetes.
