Prolonged Apnea from Pseudocholinesterase Enzyme Deficiency in Emergency Cesarean Delivery under General Anesthesia: A Case Report
Main Article Content
Abstract
We report a case of prolonged apnea in Chinese
parturient who received general anesthesia for emergency
cesarean section. A blood test confirmed she had
pseudocholinesterase enzyme deficiency leaded to
prolonged apnea and paralysis following administration of
succinylcholine. She regained adequate spontaneous
respiration after received mechanical ventilation for about
6 hours. Although pseudocholinesterase enzyme
deficiency is an uncommon condition, it may cause serious
outcomes in case that receive general anesthesia.
