Anesthetic Management for Patients with COVID-19 Undergoing Surgery in Pathumthani Hospital

Background: During COVID-19 pandemic, many patients have been quarantined and hospitalized. Anesthesiologists play important roles in the perioperative care and airway management. COVID-19 can easily spread. Preanesthetic preparation can decrease the complications to the patients and healthcare workers. This study aims to review the anesthetic management of COVID-19 patients for improvement of the anesthetic care in the future. Method: A retrospective descriptive study of all COVID-19 patients who undergoing surgery in Pathumthani Hospital between May 2021 to September 2022 was done. Result: The total of 270 COVID-19 patients were female (66%). Mean age was 25±16 years. Average BMI was 28±5 kg/m2. The majority of them were Thai (77.0%). Diabetic mellitus was the most common underlying disease (31.1%). The most ASA status was class II (72.6%). Most patients were ASA status class II (72.6%) and underwent spinal anesthesia (78.5%). The most common operation was cesarean section (57.7%). Hypotension was the most complication (7.4%). Conclusion: Anesthetic management in COVID-19 patients is highly contagious procedure. The appropriate planning and practicing are key factors to increase rate of the procedural success and healthcare workers safety.
