Role of Nurses in Short-Term Medical Observation Ward for Elderly Patients with Delirium
Keywords:
delirium, nursing role, short-term medical observation wardAbstract
Delirium presents as rapid alterations in a patient’s level of consciousness and diminished concentration, frequently observed in the elderly population. Current treatment guidelines emphasize the importance of non-medication interventions to mitigate associated risks and side effects. Nurses hold a vital role in delivering care, particularly within short-term medical observation wards tasked with managing a high volume of rotating patients. Employing diagnostic screening tools tailored to the clinical context facilitates prompt assessment, treatment, and nursing interventions, enhancing efficiency. This article synthesizes literature on delirium and underscores the essential role of nurses in short-term medical observation wards, ensuring patients receive timely and effective care, devoid of complications.
