Background: Essential skills in anesthesiology training are technical skills and non - technical skills, using for both anesthesiologists and registered nurse anesthetists. We have been normally paying attention more on technical skills because of the competency based nature of the training program. While non - technical skills have been neglected with the idea that they will be developed spontaneously by practicing in clinical settings. Actually, it is a very important part to maximize the benefit of patient safety on top of the technical skills. Non - technical skills consist of team working, task management, situation awareness and decision making. When providing appropriate teaching and learning, trainees will develop non - technical skills and use in conjunction with the technical skills to build up safe anesthesia practice behavior in the long run.
