General Submission Requirements
- Manuscripts must be written in English.
- Submissions must be original, must not have been published previously, and must not be under consideration by another journal.

Types of Manuscripts
- Original Research: Original clinical, laboratory, basic science, epidemiological, diagnostic, prognostic, interventional, or health-services research.
- Case Reports: Reports of one to three patients or a single family with a clear educational message or practical clinical insight.
- Review Articles: Narrative, systematic, scoping, or other recognized reviews that critically synthesize evidence for a broad medical readership.
- Medical Images: Original clinical images accompanied by a concise description, diagnosis, teaching points, and figure legend.
- Letters to the Editor: Comments on published articles or concise scholarly observations.
- Book Reviews: Critical assessments of the scientific, educational, or clinical value of selected books.
- Special Features: Scholarly contributions addressing medical knowledge, healthcare practice, education, policy, or health systems.
Manuscript Preparation
Provide a concise title, full author names, numbered institutional affiliations, and complete corresponding-author contact details. Include an appropriate abstract and 3–6 keywords.
Define abbreviations at first use in the abstract and again in the main text. Avoid nonstandard abbreviations in titles. Use international nonproprietary drug names and SI units.
Describe statistical methods sufficiently to permit evaluation and replication. Report statistical software and version, effect estimates and confidence intervals when appropriate, exact P values when feasible, and methods for handling missing data and multiple comparisons.
Article Structure
Original Research: Title Page; Structured Abstract; Keywords; Introduction; Materials and Methods; Results; Discussion; Limitations and Recommendations; Conclusion; Acknowledgments, if any; Funding; Conflicts of Interest; Ethical Approval; Informed Consent, when applicable; Data Availability; and References.
The structured abstract should use the headings Objective, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
Case Reports: Title Page; Unstructured Abstract; Keywords; Introduction; Case Presentation; Discussion; Conclusion; Acknowledgments, if any; Funding; Conflicts of Interest; Ethical Approval, when required; Informed Consent; and References.
Review Articles: Identify the review type in the title and abstract. The abstract should contain fewer than 200 words unless the current article-specific requirements state otherwise. Use a structured abstract for systematic or scoping reviews.
The usual order is Title Page; Abstract; Keywords; Introduction; Methods; Results or Evidence Synthesis; Discussion; Limitations; Conclusion; Acknowledgments, if any; Funding; Conflicts of Interest; Data Availability, when applicable; and References.
For other manuscript types, use a structure appropriate to the purpose and clearly explain the educational or scientific contribution. Check the current article-specific word limits, abstract limits, table and figure limits, reference limits, and file specifications before submission.
Reporting Guidelines
Follow the reporting guideline appropriate to the study design and submit the checklist and flow diagram when applicable:
- CONSORT for randomized trials.
- STROBE for observational studies.
- STARD for diagnostic accuracy studies.
- CARE for case reports.
- PRISMA for systematic reviews and PRISMA-ScR for scoping reviews.
- SQUIRE for quality-improvement reports.
Systematic and scoping reviews should provide a reproducible search strategy and study-selection flow diagram. Narrative reviews should explain how the literature was identified and selected and describe the limitations of the approach.
Tables and Figures
Number tables and figures in order of first citation. Provide self-contained titles or legends and define abbreviations, symbols, and statistical measures. Avoid duplicating all results in both the text and tables.
Submit figures at publication quality. Remove patient identifiers. Do not selectively enhance, obscure, move, remove, or introduce specific image features. Any adjustment must preserve the original information and be disclosed when relevant.
Obtain permission and provide acknowledgment for reproduced or adapted third-party material when required.
References
Use the journal's modified Vancouver style. Authors are responsible for reference accuracy, completeness, and relevance.
- Number references consecutively in order of first citation.
- Use superscript Arabic numerals after punctuation in the text. Reuse the same number for repeated citations.
- List references numerically. Every citation must have a corresponding reference, and every listed reference must be cited.
- For three or fewer authors, list all authors. For four or more, list the first three followed by “et al.”
- Write surnames followed by initials without periods.
- Use sentence case for article titles and Index Medicus/NLM journal abbreviations. Use BKK Med J. for The Bangkok Medical Journal.
- Include a verified DOI when available, without the https://doi.org/ prefix or a final full stop.
- For webpages and updateable online documents, include the cited date and URL, together with other available publication details.
- Most references should normally be from the preceding 10 years. Older landmark, classic, or method-defining sources may be retained when justified.
Journal article format:
Author(s). Article title. Journal abbreviation. Year;volume(issue):pages or article number. doi: 10.xxxx/xxxxx
Research Ethics and Informed Consent
Human research must have approval from the responsible Institutional Review Board or Ethics Committee when required. State the committee name and approval number. If approval or consent was waived or not required, explain the basis.
Written consent for publication is required for identifiable patient information or images. Consent for treatment or research participation alone does not constitute consent for publication.
Animal research must comply with applicable standards and receive appropriate ethics approval. State the committee name and approval details.
Prospective clinical trials must be registered in a publicly accessible registry before participant enrollment in accordance with applicable requirements. Include the registry name and registration number.
Authorship, Funding, and Conflicts of Interest
Authorship should follow ICMJE criteria: substantial contribution to the work; drafting or critical intellectual revision; final approval; and accountability for accuracy and integrity. Contributors who do not meet all criteria should be acknowledged with their permission.
Disclose all sources of financial and material support and describe the funder's role. Declare relevant financial and nonfinancial conflicts of interest. Include a data availability statement when applicable.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
Disclose any use of artificial intelligence-assisted technology in the cover letter and the appropriate manuscript section. Report writing assistance in Acknowledgments and use in data collection, analysis, or figure generation in Materials and Methods.
Artificial intelligence tools cannot be authors. Human authors remain responsible for accuracy, originality, citations, confidentiality, and the final submitted content.
Submission Files
- A cover letter explaining originality, relevance, and suitability and disclosing related or overlapping work.
- The manuscript, including the title page and required declarations.
- Tables, figures, and supplementary files as required.
- Applicable reporting checklists and flow diagrams.
- Ethics approval documentation, permissions, and consent documentation as required.
File names should include the first author's surname and file type.
Peer Review and Revision
Eligible manuscripts undergo plagiarism screening and double-blind peer review. Authors invited to revise must provide a revised manuscript and a point-by-point response to reviewer comments. The Editor-in-Chief makes the final editorial decision.
Proofs and Publication
Proofs are sent electronically as PDF files and should be returned within three days. The corresponding author must check author names, text, tables, figures, legends, and references. Proof correction is limited to production errors; substantial author-initiated changes may be declined.
Copyright and Licensing
Authors must complete the publishing agreement required by the journal and obtain any necessary permissions for third-party material.
Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International license (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). The license permits noncommercial sharing of unadapted material with appropriate credit.
