Abstract

ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) have trouble with physiological, mental, mood, social, and economic problems which may affect their adaptation. This descriptive research aims to study overall adaptation and adaptation modes among family caregivers of persons with ESRD receiving CAPD including, physiological mode, self-concept mode, role functional mode, and interdependence mode. The concept framework for this study was constructed based on Roy’s Adaptation Model. A total of 216 participants were specifically recruited from a group of family caregivers of persons with end stage renal disease receiving CAPD who received services at the Specialized Medicine Department 26 (CAPD Clinic), Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital. All participants replied to the following research tools: general information of the family caregivers, patient history record, and evaluation form for adaptation among family caregivers of persons with ESRD receiving CAPD. All data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.
               The results of this study revealed that overall adaptation of family caregivers of persons with ESRD receiving CAPD was at a high level ( = 4.48, SD = 0.88). Adaptation modes, including physiological adaptation ( = 4.60, SD = 0.71), self-concept adaptation ( = 4.48, SD = 0.92), role functional adaptation ( = 4.52, SD = 0.86) and inter-dependence adaptation ( = 4.30, SD = 1.01), were all at a high level.
The results of this study could provide baseline data for nurses in CAPD Clinics to better understand and enhance adaptation among family caregivers of persons with ESRD receiving CAPD.
