Alcohol drinking in adolescents is a significant social and health problem found both in Thai society and globally. This descriptive correlational research aimed to study the rate of alcohol drinking, and the factors related to alcohol drinking among female vocational students. The participants consisted of 346 female vocational students under the Office of the Vocational Education Commission in Ubon Ratchathani Province. Research instruments included questionnaires to gather: demographic information, and information on alcohol drinking refusal self-efficacy, exposure to alcohol advertising and media, attitudes towards alcohol drinking, family relationships, alcohol drinking of family members, and parental approval of alcohol drinking, with reliability values between 0.75-0.89. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression.
The results showed that the participants had an alcohol drinking rate of 48.6%. Significant factors related to alcohol drinking included alcohol drinking refusal self-efficacy (AOR = 3.16, 95% CI = 1.98-5.04), family alcohol consumption (AOR = 1.91, 95% CI = 1.18-3.09), and attitude towards alcohol drinking (AOR = 1.65, 95% CI = 1.02-2.66).
These research findings can serve as foundational information for those involved in preventing alcohol drinking among female vocational students, with a focus on promoting refusal skills and fostering a negative attitude toward drinking alcohol.
