Effects of Health Promotion Program for Older People on Knowledge and Aged Care Skills of Caregivers in Primary Care Units, Mueang District, Suratthani Province

This quasi-experiment with one-group pretest-posttest design aimed to compare levels of knowledge and aged care skills of caregivers between before and after receiving health promotion program for older people in primary care units, Mueang district, Suratthani province. The sample was 35 older people caregivers of primary care units, Mueang district, Suratthani province and was selected by purposive sampling method. Research instrument was health promotion program for older people, which was validated by a panel of 3 experts, yielding the highest level of suitability. Data were collected through a set of questionnaires including 1) knowledge test regarding heath care for older people, 2) aged care skills assessment questionnaire, and 3) caregivers’ satisfaction questionnaire. All questionnaires were confirmed for content validity by a panel of 3 experts, yielding item objective congruence (IOC) index more than .67 of all items. Reliability of knowledge test regarding heath care for older people was .66 as tested by Kuder-Richardson-21. Reliability of aged care skills assessment questionnaire and caregivers’ satisfaction questionnaire was tested by Cronbach alpha coefficient, yielding a value of and .78 และ .84 respectively. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, and paired t-test.
Research results revealed that knowledge and aged care skills of caregivers after receiving health promotion program for older people in primary care units, Mueang district, Suratthani province was significantly higher than that of before (p= .001).
