Abstract

This study was quasi-experimental research, in the control group and the experimental group. The objective was to examine the effect of a diabetic emergency risk protection program among diabetic older adults in the community. The samples were diabetic older adult patients who received treatment at Nonnoi Health Promoting Hospital. The samples were selected by purposive sampling, with 21 persons in each group divided into the control group and the experimental group.  The control group received usual care and the experimental group received a diabetic emergency risk protection program. The research instruments consisted of a diabetic emergency risk protection program, personal data, and a diabetic emergency risk protection behavior questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and t-test.

The results showed that the experimental group had a mean score of diabetic emergency risk protection behavior higher than before receiving the program (p<.01) and higher than the control group (p<.05).

The study suggested that a diabetic emergency risk protection program should be applied for diabetic older adult patients in order to improve diabetic emergency risk protection behavior.
