Ethical Standards of the Publication Ethics Committee

Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor

The editor and editorial team of the Thai Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Nursing bear responsibility for all contents published in the journal, including:

  • ensuring that the publication of the Thai Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Nursing aligns with the interests of both readers and authors,
  • maintaining and enhancing the quality of the Thai Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Nursing on a continual basis,
  • upholdng the quality of research disseminated through the Thai Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Nursing,
  • facilitating authors’ freedom to express their opinions in the Thai Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Nursing,
  • adhering to accuracy, reliability, and currency of scholarly works,
  • safeguarding the standards of intellectual property,
  • demonstrating readiness to rectify and apologize for published errors and striving for clarity and transparency, and
  • Being ready to retract academic and research articles if deemed necessary.

 

The Editor's Obligations to Readers

The editor and editorial team of the Thai Journal of Cardiothoracic Nursing are responsible for informing readers about research funding sources for relevant research.

 

Duties of the Editor to Authors

  • The editor and editorial team of the Thai Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Nursing commit to ensuring the quality of published articles, with adherence to  objectives and standards of the journal and its sections.
  • Editorial decisions regarding the acceptance and rejection of research articles are based solely on the significance, novelty, clarity, credibility of empirical evidence, and relevance to the scope of the journal.
  • The editor  and editorial team clearly specify the article review and evaluation process (peer review) and address any deviations from the specified review process.
  • The Thai Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Nursing provides channels for authors to appeal editorial decisions.
  • Authors may appeal to the editorial team of the journal or the Association of Cardiothoracic Nurses.
  • Comprehensive recommendations for authors regarding journal publication matters, including writing guidelines and awareness of pertinent issues, are regularly updated and made available on the journal’s website as well as in its publications.
  • Editorial decisions to reject previously rejected articles for publication remain unchanged once the decision has been made.
  • The editor refrains from rescinding publication decisions made by previous editors unless compelling evidence of serious issues has emerged during the submission process under a new editor.

 

Responsibilities of the Editor towards Article Reviewers

  • The editors provides comprehensive guidance to article reviewers and ensure regular updates of such guidance.
  • A system is in place to safeguard the personal information of article reviewers, except in cases of open-access article evaluation, with prior notification to authors and reviewers.

Article Evaluation Process

  • The editor ensures confidentiality during the article evaluation process.

 

Handling Complaints

  • The editor adheres to the workflow chart specified by the Publishing Ethics Committee.
  • Prompt responses to complaints instill confidence in complainants, who are informed of avenues for further recourse to the Publication Ethics Committee, with procedures clearly outlined in the journal.

 

Support for Discourse

  • Critiques of published articles are disclosed unless there are valid reasons for non-disclosure.
  • Authors are afforded opportunities to respond to criticisms of their work, ensuring balanced discourse.
  • Conflicting research findings with published articles warrant authors’ responses to maintain comprehensive discussions.

 

Ensuring Academic Accuracy

  • Measures are implemented to ensure the accuracy of all details in published research articles in line with accepted international ethical principles.
  • Evidence is gathered to confirm that published research has received approval from an authorized body, though approval does not guarantee ethical conduct.

 

Protection of Personal Information

  • Confidentiality of personal information is maintained, requiring written consent for the inclusion of identifiable patient information in articles. Exceptions to written consent requirements are made when articles serve the public interest, when difficulty in obtaining consent exists, and when the relevant individuals has no objections to publication.

 

Addressing Misconducts

  • Suspicions of misconducts are diligently followed up on for both published and unpublished research articles.
  • Investigations precede immediate rejection of articles suspected of misconducts, with due process and fact-checking receiving highest priority.

 

Authenticity of Academic Work

  • Inaccuracies in published academic articles are promptly corrected for accuracy, clarity, and transparency.
  • Articles found to contain dishonest content after investigation are retracted and publicized accordingly.

 

Relationships with Journal Owners and Publishers

The editor maintains independence in decision-making from journal owners and publishers, with a focus on quality and reader suitability. Decisions on article acceptance prioritize quality and relevance over financial or political considerations.

 

Commercial Considerations

  • Advertising policies prioritize content relevance to the journal’s scope and supplements or additions.
  • Advertisements are screened to prevent misunderstanding, with equitable treatment for criticisms considered.

 

Conflict of Interest

  • A conflict of interest management system extends to the editor, journal staff, authors, reviewers, and editorial team members.

 

Process for Addressing Complaints against the Editor and Editorial Team

  • Formal complaints can be filed following a prescribed workflow outlined by the Publishing Ethics Committee.
  • Complaints must first be directed to the journal for resolution before subsequently submitting to the Publishing Ethics Committee, with necessary documentation provided.
  • The Committee considers valid complaints within stipulated timeframes, excluding issues related to editorial decision-making.

 

Appeal Process

  • Complainants retain the right to appeal against the Publishing Ethics Committee recommendations, with details available through the Committee.
