Abstract

This study aimed to compare knowledge and anxiety-related warfarin use in patients with atrial fibrillation before and after informed provision by using video media. This study was a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample of this study was 30 patients with atrial fibrillation receiving first-time oral warfarin therapy. The instruments of this study included video media about warfarin use. The data was collected using a demographic questionnaire, the questionnaire for taking anticoagulant drugs knowledge, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The data was analyzed using descriptive and paired t-tests.

The study results revealed that after joining the program, the patients with atrial fibrillation had a mean score of knowledge about warfarin therapy higher than before receiving the program (p< 0.05). After receiving the program, they had a mean score of anxiety-related warfarin use lower than before receiving the program (p<0.05).

The results of the study indicate that public health personnel educated patients via video, media can increase knowledge and decrease anxiety in patients with atrial fibrillation who are initiating oral warfarin medication for the first time.
