Abstract

Objective: This descriptive research aimed to test a causal model of job performance of in-charge nurses at general hospitals in Health Region 8, Mekhong Basin. Methods: The research samples were 263 in-charge nurses in 4 hospitals in Health Region 8, Mekhong Basin recruited by simple random sampling technique. The research instruments were servant leadership of head nurses, self-efficacy, work engagement and job performance questionnaires. The IOC was between .80-1.00, and the reliability yielded .86, .87, .97,
and .94, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Structural Equation Modeling by LISREL programe. Results: The findings of the study showed that:1) Servant leadership of head nurses and self-efficacy had a direct effect on the job performance of in-charge nurses, 2) Servant leadership of head nurses and self-efficacy were mediated by work engagement with the job performance of in-charge nurses, and 3) The causal model of job performance of in-charge nurses was in accordance with the empirical data (χ2 = 73.66, df = 57, p = .06, RMSEA = .03, GFI = .96, AGFI = .93). Conclusion: To develop job performance of in-charge nurses and nursing quality, nursing administrators should promote servant leadership of head nurses, self-efficacy, and work engagement.
