Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze factors model influencing workplace infection preventive behaviors among the small groups of poultry slaughter inresponsible area of the Office of Disease Prevention and Control10th Ubonrajchatani, case study of Avian Influenza. Total of 320 slaughters from the small groups of poultry slaughters in 4 provinces, Ubonrajchatani, Srisakate, Sakonnakhon and Nakhonpanom, were selected by a multi - stage random sampling technique as the subjects. The study tools included adopted questionnaire and workplace checklist form. The data were collected by slaughterhouse checklist and subjects interview focusing on demographic data (sex, age, educational background, area of residence, working character), predisposing factors (level of knowledge and perception on Avian Flu), enabling factors (tangible social supports for prevention of infection) and reinforcing factors (informational and emotional social supports for prevention of infection). Data from individual questionnaire and workplace checklist were analyzed by the descriptive statistics and the stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results revealed that, for predisposing factors on Avian influenza, 54.0% of subjects had the overall knowledge at a moderate level and 48.5% had the overall perception at a high level. For reinforcing factors, 96.2% of subjects had received information on Avian influenza prevention from responsible personnel and media and for enabling factors, 91.7% had received tangible social support. According to 3 types of factors, emotional social support in term of being accountable for having duty – bound to act in disease prevention (reinforcing factor), received tangible social support (enabling factor) and level of overall perception on the disease severity (predisposing factors) were significantly influencing Avian influenza preventive behaviors (p<0.05). Model 1, all significant factors influencing protective behaviors can explain 67.1% (p<0.05) of the total variance in the Avian influenza protective behaviors (p<0.05). Model 2, all significant factors can explain 65.7% of the total variance in the Avian influenza protective behaviors (p<0.05).
