Abstract

A study of factors affecting ability in reporting adverse events following immunization (AEFI) patients aims to study factors affecting ability in reporting patient’s symtoms having symptom after receiving immunization. It is a descriptive research using cross-sectional technique as a method for this study. Questionnaire surveys were conducted as a tool for data collection with 241 samples, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis.

The results revealed that personal attributes of the sample group mostly were female (68.05 %), between 23-59 years of ages (SD 8.80), 60.58 % of marital status, bachelor’s degree 77.18 %, registered nurses 39.83 % with work experience ranged from 1-35 years (SD=7.49), and 73.44% trained in AEFI.

Level of motivation factor in work performance was found in high level with average 3.78 (5) (S.D. = 0.03, 95% CI = 3.7-3.84), the level of reporting ability is moderate with 3.63 of average (S.D. = 0.04, 95% CI = 3.56-3.70). While, results from relationship analysis among age, gender, work experience, motivation and reporting ability were found that factors of acceptance and respect (r=0.544, p-value<0.001), responsibility(r=0.534, p-value<0.001), success in work(r=0.501, p-value<0.001), job description and characteristic (r=0.494, p-value<0.001) and opportunity and advancement in work (r=0.464, p-value<0.001) have relationships with the reporting ability of AEFI at 0.001 significant level.

Prediction indicated that variables in terms of age, gender, work experience, success of working, acceptance and respect, job description and characteristic, responsibility, and opportunity and advancement in work can be mutually used (co-used) in predicting the variation in reporting capabilities related AEFI patients accounting for 42.8% (R-square=0.428) with65.4 % of accuracy (overall percentage = 0.654).

This research can be used to plan for better implementation in terms of motivation enhancements, acceptance and respect, responsibility, job characteristics as well as motivation for career progression and the success of the work for further enhancing the competence of personnel in reporting the AEFI.
