Knowledge and Understanding of Self-care and Self-stigma of Multi-drug Resistance of Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patient in responsible area of the office of disease prevention and control region 10th Ubon Ratchathani

This survey research was aimed to study knowledge and understanding of self-care and self-stigma and the factors associate to knowledge and understanding of self-care and self-stigma of MDR-TB patient in community. The study area was in the responsible area of the office of disease prevention and control region 10th Ubon Ratchathani where found MDR-TB patient in 36 sub-districts, 12 districts during the year 2016-2018. Population were 51 cases of MDR-TB patients. The tool was questionnaires consisted of the general data, social support, knowledge of MDR-TB self-care, and stigma. Descriptive statistic and Independent T-test were used for data analysis.
Results: The sample were male (74.5%), Age average 50.55 year, No career during treatment (79%), MDR-TB new case (52.9%), Care by DOT (Directly observed treatment; 82.4%), care giver was health personnel (52.9%), drug adherence (88.2%), and DOT by care giver (49.0%). The knowledge and understanding of self-care was moderate level (Mean= 11.65, S.D.=2.568), social support in the community was moderate level (Mean=13.61, S.D.=3.232), and self-stigma was moderate level (Mean=3.25, S.D.=1.339). The factor of sex was associated to self-stigma and knowledge and understanding of self-care of MDR-TB patient significantly at 0.05. Whereas the factors of age, and type of patients: new case and relapse/ failure, social support was not significant relation to self-stigma and knowledge and understanding of self-care of MDR-TB patient.
