Diagnosis and Treatment Erupted Mesiodens in Mixed Dentition &
Impacted Mesiodens in Permanent Dentition in a Non-syndromic Patient
Supernumerary teeth are a relatively frequent disorder of odontogenesis characterized by an excess number of teeth which is one of the developmental problems in children. Infact mesiodens is the most common type of supernumerary tooth present in the midline between the two central incisors and can be supplemental (resembling natural tooth) conical, tuberculate or molariform. It may occur as an isolated dental anomalous condition or may be associated with a syndrome. Moreover it is the most significant dental anomaly affecting mixed and permanent dentition mainly but rarely on primary dentition. Consequently it usually results in oral problems such as malocclusion, food impaction, poor aesthetics and cyst formation. Early diagnosis allows the most appropriated treatment because it reduce the extent of surgery, orthodontic treatment and possible complications. The extraction of the supernumerary teeth is the standard treatment for allowing the permanent incisors to erupt properly. The objective of two-case report is to describe the corrective treatment of erupted mesiodens and impacted mesiodens.
