Abstract

Objective : To determine the safety and patient satisfaction of making early stitch off with applying skin tape instead in order to reduce the suture - related scars of postpartum sterilization wounds.

Material and Method : A prospective study was conducted at Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology, Klaeng hospital. Sixty-six women who underwent postpartum sterilization were included. At 24 hours postoperatively, early stitch off was made and skin tape was applied in place of the suture material in order to reduce suture – related scar. Complications and patient satisfaction were collected.

Results : The rate of wound dehiscence was 1.5 percent and there was no wound infection in this study. Patient satisfaction level was high and very high.

Conclusion: Early stitch off with applying skin tape instead was the safe method to reduce the suture - related scars with high level of patient satisfaction.
