Oral physiotherapy (orak hygiene instructions and daily toothbrushing after lunch campaign) in staffs of Prappokklao Hospital

Abstract

Context : As Periodontal diseases are chronic in nature,the successful periodontal therapy demands high level of patient cooperation.

Objective : To reduce Plaque Index scores to 20percent and Bleeding Index scores more than 80 percent by oral physiotherapy as follows: oral hygiene instructions and daily toothbrushing after lunch campaign in staffs of Prapokklao Hospital.

Participants : The 68 volunteers were staffs of Prapokklao Hospital.

Matrials and Methods : At the begin of study, after baseline Plaque Index and Bleeding Index scores was recorded, the participants were explained oral hygiene instructions and started daily toothbrushing after lunch campaign. In 3, 6 and 9 months of study period, Plaque Index and Bleeding Index scores was re-examined. Data were express as means of t-test for paired data

Results : That was statistically significant difference in Plaque Index and Bleeding Index in 3 months (P< 0.05). In 9 months 6 volunteers could reduce Plaque Index scores until 20 percent and 52 volunteers could reduce Bleeding Index scores more than 80percent.

Conclusions : The oral physiotherapy as follows: oral hygiene instructions and daily toothbrushing after lunch campaign can improve oral hygiene include reduce Plaque Index and Bleeding Index scores in staffs of Prapokklao Hospital.
