Skin diseases at Prapokklao Hospital during year 2006

Abstract

Back ground : Skin disease is still one of the major public health problems in Thailand. Some skin diseases may be life threatening, some may interfere quality of life and create stigma to the affected individuals, such as psoriasis and leprosy. The study of epidemiology of skin diseases in Thailand is quite limited, only few reports have been found.

Objective : This study aims to look for basic knowledge about descriptive epidemiology of out patient skin diseases at Propokklao hospital during the year 2006.

Material and Methods : Cases of skin diseases visited Prapokklao Hospital from January 1 to December 31, 2006 were reviewed according to International Classification of Diseases (ICD 10). Datas were analysed by using descriptive. statistics (Percent and Ratio).

Result : There were 7803 cases comprised of 13,125 visits, constituting approximately 3.79 percent of all out patient visits. The ratio male to female was 1:1.2. The highest group was between age 15-60 years. Employee was the main registered occupation. Most cases (91.87 percent) lived in Chanthaburi province. Dermatologists provided about 31.60 percent services, most of the skin disease patients were cared by other physicians (62.25 percent) The most common group of skin disease was Dermatitis and Eczema (34.64 percent), followed by Infection of skin and subcutaneous tissue group (33.84 percent)
