Abstract
Although a variety of methods are available to re-establish gastrointestinal continuity after esophageal resection, the most commonly used one for esophageal substitute is the stomach. In situations where the stomach is not available because of the tumor involement or in benign condition in which we should preserve the stomach for food reservoir. Any part of colon can be used for interposition after esophageal resection or substernal bypass without resection. During 2000-2005 we used the right side of colon with few inches of terminal ileum as an interposed conduit in 5 cases of esophageal carcinoma and 2 cases of benign corrosive
stricture. Only one case has a minimal leakage in the neck incision, the others have a good result especially in swallowing function after surgery.
