Abstract

Medical records of head injured patients who were admitted in Prapokklao hospital during 1 JAN 2005-31 DEC 2006 were reviewed.Total number of the patients is 3,934 (2005=1,920 and in year 2006=2,014).Most of them were injured from traffic accident(2005=1,390 and in year 2006=1,476) other course of head injury were body assault and falling.Of the patients who got head injury from traffic accident some of them were drunk (2005=35.68 percent and in year 2006=34.82 percent).

Males were founded injured at their head more often than female. (2005 male=74.64 percent and in year 2006 male=70.51 percent).Age group between 21-30 years was the largest group in this study (2005=26.46 percent and in year 2006=23.83 percent).

Most of the head injured patients were worker(2005=50.89 percent and in year 2006=50.30 percent ).

Cerebral concussion was the most frequent diagnosis,the other frequent diagnosis were scalp injury and cerebral contusion.Most of the head injured patients were classified as mild head injury. (2005=65.16 percent and in year 2006=70.01 percent).

Body injury frequently founded in head injury group were facial lacerated, fracture clavicle,fracture rib and fracture zygoma.

Complication that were diagnosed include pneumonia, urinary tract infection, meningitis, electrolyte imbalance and coagulopathy.Total dead cases in year 2005=199 and in year 2006=203.GCS was significantly related to the outcome.
