The frenectomy combined with double papilla laterally positioned flap : A care report.

Abstract
In many cases it is necessary to perform a frenectomy to prevent reopening of a middle diastema following closure by orthodontic therapy. Often the loss of the interdental papilla between the maxillary incisors during the classic frenectomy creatres an unacceptable esthetic result. A surgical technique combining a frenectomy with a double papilla positioned flap is presented. The interdental papilta is left surgically undistrubed if it is of physiologi size. lf it is enlarged, gingivoplasty is performed to reduced it to an appropriate size.Closure across the midline by double papilla positioning gingival and healing by primary intension results in attached gingival across the midline. This attached gingival may have a bracing effect and thus aid in preventing orthodontic relapse (reopening of the diastema). The esthetic result is superior to that obtained with the classic frenectomy technique.
