Abstract

Objective : To find prevalence and risk facter of osteoporosis in out-patient at Prapokklao Hospital.

Method : Bone mineral density was measure by Achillis Express and report in T-score which refer to bone condition : osteoporosis, osteopenia or normal bone mineral density. Inteview subjects in history of risk factors to osteoporosis.

Result : One hundrad and ninty seven patients (male 34, 17.3 percent and female 163, 82.7 percent), aged between 27-86 years (mean = 54.75), were included. Body weight 38-84 kilograms (mean = 60.56 kgs), height 135-180 centrimetres (mean = 156.07). BMI. 16.44- 38.29 kg/m2 (mean = 24.905) and T-score (-5.4) - (3.9) ( mean = -.732). Prevalence of osteoporosis was 21.3 percent, Osteopenia 22.3 percent. The risk factors of osteoporosis in this study relate to old aged (p = .000), history of menopause (p = .000), diseases of bone and joint (p = .0148) level of education (p = .042) and career (p =.011).
