Pregnancy outcomes between teenage pregnancy and adult pregnancy

Abstract

Background : Teenage pregnancy has been a high risk of obstetrics and neonatal complication.
Several studies had conflicted results.
Objective : To compare maternal outcomes and neonatal outcomes between teenage
pregnancy (age 10-19 years) and adult pregnancy (20-29years)
Research design : Descriptive retrospective study
Material and method : The study group consisted of 158 teenage pregnant and control
group consisted of 175 adult pregnant who were delivered at Lahansai
Hospital during 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2010
Results : Teenage pregnancy rate was 18.98 percent .Anemia and low weight gain
were significant higher in teenage pregnancy but CPD was increased in
adult group, while cesarean section rate and neonatal complications not
different.
Conclusion : Teenage pregnancy was increasing the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.
