บทคัดย่อ
โรคตับคั่งไขมันที่ไม่ได้เกิดจากแอลกอฮอล์ หรือ Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) จัดว่าเป็นโรคตับอักเสบเรื้อรังที่พบมากขึ้นในปัจจุบัน และพบได้บ่อยในเวชปฏิบัติทั่วไป นิยามและเกณฑ์การวินิจฉัยโรคถูกใช้มานานแล้ว แต่ยังมีความสับสนของแพทย์ระหว่างการคำว่า NAFLD และ NASH นอกจากนี้เกณฑ์การวินิจฉัยเดิมยังมีข้อจำกัดในบางประการ ทำให้ไม่นานมานี้ มีการเสนอชื่อให้ใช้คำว่า Metabolic (dysfunction) associated fatty liver (MAFLD) ซึ่งมีเกณฑ์การวินิจฉัยที่แตกต่างไปจากเดิม ใช้พยาธิกำเนิดของโรคนี้ได้แก่ ภาวะ Metabolic syndrome ต่างๆ มาอยู่ในเกณฑ์การวินิจฉัยด้วย แพทย์จึงควรที่จะทราบถึงความแตกต่างของเกณฑ์การวินิจฉัยและข้อจำกัดของทั้งคำว่า NAFLD และ MAFLD ถึงแม้จะเป็นโรคเดียวกันก็ตาม
