HELLP Syndrome: Nurse Roles for Prevention and Nursing Care
Main Article Content
Abstract
HELLP Syndrome is a condition characterized by hemolysis, elevated Liver enzyme levels, and low platelet count. It is considered a severe condition in pregnant women with severe preeclampsia. In Thailand, the reported incidence of HELLP Syndrome ranges from 4.1% to 12.5% among pregnant women with severe preeclampsia. This condition can lead to maternal and neonatal mobidity and motality. Therefore, prompt diagnosis and timely treatment can help reduce the complications and mortality rates. Nurses play a crucial role in preventing and managing HELLP Syndrome, including ensuring bed rest, continuously monitoring blood pressure and fetal heart rate, administering anticonvulsant and antihypertensive medications, providing blood components, monitoring for side effects, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to plan the safe termination of the pregnancy. Additionally, eclampsia and postpartum hemorrhage monitoring is required during postpartum period.
